Last Few Days

It has been hot and sunny the last few days. It was perfect weather for using the solar ovens. Clear and sunny with long days. We used both ovens. The first thing out of the ovens was chili. When that came out dinner went into the oven. It was a slow-cooker recipe with chicken and rice. Kate also baked her banana bread in the oven.

The garden has been growing well.[thumb:401:c] [newline]
The patio orange tomato doesn’t look too good with the leaf damage but that doesn’t seem to be stopping it from producing tomatoes. There are at least a couple set now. The Thai Pink Egg tomatoes are growing and have set tomatoes too.

I planted some Lemon Gem Marigolds which have edible flowers this morning, courtesy of a seed donation from my mom. I need to figure out something else to plant beside the watermelon (which still hasn’t done anything, I probably started it too soon).

The garden this year has been like any garden. Successes and failures both but we keep learning what works. Several of the radishes I harvested this morning didn’t really seem to have the round radish root. I don’t know if I waited too long or what exactly happened there. I’ll have to read more about radishes. The little Tom Thumb carrots are small. I probably could have planted them much closer together. They’d work in a much more shallow container. The peas seem to be happy and productive. Our Thai Pink Egg tomatoes are doing well. I’m eager to see how our tomato harvest turns out.
