Alexander Tecwyn Williams is due to be born January 13th, 2009! His parents, Ryan and Kathleen, are very excited. After nearly 17 years of marriage our dream of having a child is coming true!
After all this time we’d pretty much figured that having a child wasn’t going to happen. But then back in May-June Kate was feeling pretty sick… Figuring that it was just the flu she didn’t think too much about it (except hope that it would stop soon). Ryan suggested that maybe she was pregnant but that just didn’t seem to be possible. The weeks passed but the illness stubbornly hung on.
On June 26th we got back from the medical clinic (Ryan had a bit of a crash on his trike, nothing to worry about) and Kate took a pregnancy test. Not realizing that she was taking the test right then Ryan was on the phone to Grandma Williams about the doctor visit. Suddenly there was a shout!
“It’s positive! It’s positive!”
Kate just realized that Ryan was right all along. She was pregnant! A few days later we had our first doctor’s appointment at the South Sound Women’s Clinic. Lots of paperwork but nothing else. We had to wait longer for the first ultrasound, on July 7th. Everything at that point looked good but we didn’t know if it was a boy or a girl. More waiting.
While waiting we started planning for what we needed to change with a baby coming. Ryan started moving furniture and bookcases around the apartment. Kate directed the work (the doctor had said no lifting over 25 lbs). The first trimester was pretty much over already at that point and soon morning sickness would fade away. Everything looked good.
But then after the quad screen blood test we got a call that some of the numbers warranted a more detailed ultrasound in Tacoma instead of the ultrasound planned at 20 weeks. More waiting. We woke up far too early in the morning, unable to sleep. More waiting. Finally we left and went to the appointment. During the ultrasound everything looked good. There were no indications of any problems. We’ll go back in a few weeks to make sure but it looks good.
And it’s a boy!
Yippee! Fantastic news!
There’s not much sweeter than a sweet baby boy, if I do say so myself! *wink*
