The garden continues to grow as the temperatures have gone up. The tomatoes have set a bunch of fruit but nothing is ripe yet. The cucumber has also set some fruit which will be fun to see how it develops. Our beans and peas are growing. The chard was attacked again by the leaf borers but doesn’t seem to be bad this time. I removed the damaged leaves right away this time. I tried to start some zucchini but the seeds haven’t sprouted. I’ll try again but there may not be time. Can’t hurt to try. I also want to be thinking about what fall crops we’ll be planting.
More Planting
I took a look at my copy of All New Square Foot Gardening. The author has tables in the back about when different plants should be grown and how long they take. I decided to plant pinto and black beans in the section next to the watermelon. With eight to nine weeks to harvest there should be enough time before fall. It’ll be interesting to see if it works!
Last Few Days
It has been hot and sunny the last few days. It was perfect weather for using the solar ovens. Clear and sunny with long days. We used both ovens. The first thing out of the ovens was chili. When that came out dinner went into the oven. It was a slow-cooker recipe with chicken and rice. Kate also baked her banana bread in the oven.

The garden has been growing well.[thumb:401:c] [newline]
The patio orange tomato doesn’t look too good with the leaf damage but that doesn’t seem to be stopping it from producing tomatoes. There are at least a couple set now. The Thai Pink Egg tomatoes are growing and have set tomatoes too.

[thumb:402:l] The Lemon Cucumber has been growing and blooming. I don’t know if any cucumbers have set yet.[newline]

I planted some Lemon Gem Marigolds which have edible flowers this morning, courtesy of a seed donation from my mom. I need to figure out something else to plant beside the watermelon (which still hasn’t done anything, I probably started it too soon).
The garden this year has been like any garden. Successes and failures both but we keep learning what works. Several of the radishes I harvested this morning didn’t really seem to have the round radish root. I don’t know if I waited too long or what exactly happened there. I’ll have to read more about radishes. The little Tom Thumb carrots are small. I probably could have planted them much closer together. They’d work in a much more shallow container. The peas seem to be happy and productive. Our Thai Pink Egg tomatoes are doing well. I’m eager to see how our tomato harvest turns out.
Froggies!
Today as I was watering the porch garden I discovered a little frog in each of the tomato planter’s water spouts. They are both quite different from each other.
This little guy was in the Patio Orange tomato planter.

And this bright fellow was in the Thai tomato planter.

Our peas are looking so yummy, sadly there is not very many of them yet.

And the nasturtiums are doing wonderfully. Such a bright, cheery flower.

Ferry County Trip
This past weekend we took a trip over to Ferry County. Eventually, after our debts are gone, we’d like to relocate to this area. We camped at Swan Lake, spent some time in Republic and drove around the county. We took a lot of pictures of the lake and chipmunks.

Yoga schedule
Tonight I started my new yoga practice. My new schedule has a half hour of yoga in the morning when I first get up and then again before bed. It’s clear right off that I need to do a lot of breathing practice as well as the postures. Kripalu yoga has a good mix of the two so I think it’ll help. I like what I’ve read so far in the books.
